MATCH REPORT

Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies entertained Cardiff City Women at Old Road on Sunday for their second league game of the season. In the early stages of the game there wasn’t a great deal between the teams but the deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when City made a good attack down the left and a cross resulted in Zoe Atkins scoring to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. City and two further gaols from Lisa Owen on 37 minutes and Hannah Daley on 42 minutes to give the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time which was very harsh on the reds who had performed well despite the score-line.

The Ferry girls came out fighting in the second half but it was City who added a fourth on 53 minutes through Phoebe Poole to make the game safe. However a minute later the reds struck with Lowri Baker finishing well to reduce the deficit. On 75 minutes Sophie Topper added a second for the reds heading home a Megan Kearle cross from the right. At this point the reds were well on top in the game and looked capable of grabbing a third to set up an exciting finish. However despite a number of promising attacks they were unable to reduce the deficit any further. City added a fifth from Catherine Walsh in the final minute of the game to give a final score of 5-2 to the visitors. This was a much improved performance from the reds and they will look to improve further next week when they visit Abergavenny in the WPWL cup.
