Cardiff City 3-2 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Late goal as Bluebirds beat Reds

Adran Premier champions Cardiff City beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-2 I in the final game of the season at Cardiff City Stadium.
The first half saw Ferry take the game to Cardiff and create the best of the early chances. Maia Owen going very close to opening the scoring. It was the home team though who took the lead though Kerry Walklett in the 25th minute. The Reds responded straight away as Meg Kearle hit a stunning strike just a minute later. The Bluebirds would then retake the lead though Ffiona Barry in the 41st minute.
The second had half saw more pressure from Cardiff as they looked to capitalise on their lead. Molly Kehoe forced a good save from Courtney Young. The Reds had their own chances as Jade Crofts hit the side netting. Tija Richardson headed the Reds level in the 68th minute but a late goal gave Cardiff the win.

The Reds will end the season in second place in their return season to the Adran Premier. The game was also Rhys James last as manager of the team. James steps down after three years at the club. Vinney Murray and Dan Kelly will both also leave the club and Briton Ferry Llansawel would like to thank all three for their incredible work.
The Reds made a bright start and took the game to Cardiff. Maia Owen winning a free kick on the left. Meg Kearle swung the ball into the box but City were able to clear.
Tija Richardson then took aim from outside the box and her dipping effort went just over the crossbar.
Tija Richardson won the ball in the middle and it was sent out to Jade Crofts. Crofts took a shot from the right that went narrowly over.
Then it was Laura-May Walkley’s turn as she tried a lob from the edge of the box. Again the ball going just over the crossbar.
Ferry went close again as Jade Crofts broke down the right. Crofts cut inside and went past a defender before playing the ball into the near post. Maia Owen met it but her effort was saved.
Walkley then went close again as she tried to curl the ball around the keeper but it went just past the far post.
Cardiff then had their first good chance to score with a shot from inside the box but Courtney Young saved.
Despite their pressure it was the Bluebirds who took the lead Kerry Walklett hitting allow shot into the bottom corner.

The host’s lead didn’t last long as Meg Kearle levelled almost straight after. Kearle hitting a shot over the keeper that went in off the bar.
A corner from Jess Denscombe found the head of Lowri Ridings who sent the ball towards goal. Crofts then tried to direct it in but Cardiff were able to clear.
Cardiff then made a quick counter attack and sent Ffion Barry though who restored City’s lead.

An early second half shot came for the Reds when Ella Smitham tried from distance but her effort went straight at the keeper.
The hosts tried to push the Reds back and sustain some pressure. Laura Curnock tried from the left but sent her effort well over.
Molly Kehoe then had a good chance but her effort from close range was well saved by Young.
Maia Owen tried to thread the ball though the Cardiff defence for Crofts but the City keeper was out quickly to claim.
A good piece of play saw Richardson send the ball into the box for Crofts. Crofts hit the side netting with a quick fire shot from the right.

Crofts then hit another shot which was blocked for a corner. Jess Denscombe took the corner and swung the ball into the box. Tija Richardson met it and headed down into the net.
In the 88th minute Ffion Price scored for Cardiff as they took the lead again. Ffion Price’s shot was saved by Young but Nieve Jenkins turned the but towards goal again Young saved but the officials judged the ball had crossed the line.
