Match Report: Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-0 Barry Town United

Three for Ferry as they beat Linnets

Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Barry Town United 3-0 in the Adran Premier at The Renewable Centre Stadium. 


The first half saw an open game with both teams having chances.  Barry possibly should have taken the lead when Sienna Stone was though but she shot wide.  Ferry then capitalised as they went up the other end and scored Brooke Llewellyn with the decisive touch.  Courtney Young saved an effort from India Shanahan and Maia Owen and Meg Kearle went close to doubling Ferry’s lead.  Barry’s Amelia Herbert was sent off in the 43rd minute.

The second half saw Ferry pressure the Barry Town goal as they looked to take advantage of the extra player.  Lucy Powell made it 2-0 after a mistake from the Barry defence six minutes after the restart.  Ferry peppered the Barry goal in search of a third but Molly Arneson pulled of a string of fine saves.  Ferry finally added a third in added as Crofts found the net.



Briton Ferry remain in fifth place in the table now a point behind fourth placed TNS.

The games first chance fell to the Reds when Laura-May Walkley-Witts’ pass found Jade Crofts.  Crofts stepped inside the Barry defender and fired a shot across goal.  Molly Arnesen needed to make a good save to deny Crofts


Barry should have taken the lead when a good ball across goal found Sienna Stone in front og goal.  Stone directing the ball wide of Courtney Youngs goal.


Jade Crofts won the Reds a corner which Lucy Powell sent into the six yard box.  As the ball fell to the ground Brooke Llewellyn turn it past Arnesen to put the Reds ahead.


Ferry soon had another corner on the other side this time sent in by Meg Kearle.  Lowri Ridings met it at the far post but headed over.


Barry then broke though the Reds defence and India Shanahan was in on goal.  Shanahan taking a shot but Young turned it around the post.


Barry’s Amelia Herbert was sent off for a second bookable offence.  Herbert judged to have played a high foot and given a second yellow card.

Maia Owen was pulled back on the left corner of the box giving the Reds a free kick. Meg Kearle went for goal but her effort went over the bar.


Ferry soon had a second when Lucy Powell took advantage of a poor pass from Barry.  Powell latching non to the loose ball and firing into the net with the keeper way out of position.

Jade Crofts then found herself in on goal and her low shot was saved well by Arneson.  Ferry kept the pressure on and Crofts had another effort saved by Arnesen.


Arneson was needed again to stop Ferry’s attacks first sliding in to stop Crofts then recovering and saving Owen’s shot.    


Lucy Powel hit a stunning strike though a crowd of players and it found the net but it was ruled out for an offside. 


Walkley-Witts then forced another save from Arneson, Walkley taking on two defenders before firing a shot the need strong hands from the keeper to turn over.


Crofts was though again and tried to fire past the keeper but Arneson did well to turn over the bar.


Jade Crofts made sure of the three points for Ferry with a late strike.  Crofts sent though on goal by Anya Grunewald Crofts fired past Arneson.
