Match Report: Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-1 Pontypridd United

Kearle strike sinks Ponty

Briton Ferry Llansawel secured their fourth win of the season with a 2-1 win over Pontypridd United at The Renewable Centre Stadium. 


The Reds pushed Pontypridd back during the first half and saw chances Jade Crofts, Meg Kearle and Oliva Kett-White.  They broke the deadlock late in the first half though Laura-May Walkley-Witts.

During the second half Ponty pushed forward and Madison Lloyd had several chances to level.  With 69 minutes played they did level Jemima Lister slotting in the net.  The Reds then looked to retake the lead and in the 83rd minute Megan Kearle was though thanks to Walkley-Witts headed ball into the box and she fired past the keeper.


Ferry stay in fifth place in the Adran Premier table on 12 points level with fourth place The New Saints.  The two team meeting in the next round of league games. 

Ferry had the games first shot when Meg Kearle played the ball into Jade Crofts.  Crofts hit a shot at goal but it was straight at the keeper.


Laura-May Walkley-Witts won the reds a free kick to the left of the box.  Meg Kearle’s free kick hit the wall but Kearle and Lucy Powell linked up allowing Kearle to send a ball across goal.  The Ponty keeper first to it to deny and scoring chance.


Ferry had another free kick soon after when Maia Owen was fouled.  Again it was on the left side of the box and again Kearle sent the ball in.  this time finding the head of Olivia Kett-White who headed over.


Ferry then created the games best chance as Maia Owen fed the ball into Jade Crofts.  Crofts spotted the run by Kearle who hit a low shot that need a good save to stop.


Kearle then had another great chance to open the scoring.  Good work from Alice Broadley down the left getting the ball across the box for Kearle.  Kearle hitting her shot over the bar.


Maia Owen won the Reds another free kick, this time Kearle went for goal with her effort rattling the cross bar.


Owen then went close picking up a long ball beyond the defensive line, she cut past a defender and hit a sot that need the keeper at full stretch to turn away.  Crofts went for the follow up but the Ponty keeper did enough to deny her.


Lucy Powell took the resulting corner and Lowri Ridings met it.  Her effort was blocked and as Ponty scrambled to clear Laura-May Walkley-Witts turned the ball in.

There was an early free kick for the Reds when Meg Kearle was brought down on the right hand side of the box.  Lucy Powell swung the ball at goal and forced the keeper to tip over.


Ponty then had a couple of chances a long ball looked to set Madison Lloyd away but she was kept out by Ridings.  Then Charlotte Merry was needed to turn a shot around the post.


Kearle then made a driving run down the right leaving the Ponty defenders behind.  She sent the ball into the near post and found Crofts who flicked effort went over.

Another Lowri Ridings intervention was needed to stop a break from Lloyd.  Ridings timing the tackle well.  Just moments later and Lloyd hit a sot that went just over the bar.


The visitors then did get a goal, Jemima Lister turning in a the back post from a free kick by Molly Jones.


Lucy Powell sent a defence splitting pass though to Maia Owen but Owen lifted her shot over the bar.


Walkley-Witts headed a Ponty clearance back into the box and Meg Kearle made a run to it.  With just the keeper in front of her Kearle fired a shot into the bottom corner.


Madison Lloyd had another chance from the left of the box but her effort went over the bar.


The Reds saw out the came as Lucy Powell and Walkley-Witts held the ball up in the Ponty half to run out the clock.
