Match Report: Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-5 Wrexham

Reds defeated in season opener


On a rain soaked day Briton Ferry Llansawel fell to defeat in their opening game of the season.  After leading at the break the visitors came back in the second half.


Jade Crofts gave the Reds the early lead before Meg Kearle hit a free kick to make it too.  Just before half time Wrexham pulled a goal back though Marian Mahmood. 


The visitors hit four goals in the second half to complete their comeback and hand the Reds an opening day defeat.

The reds took an early lead when a soft pass back to the keeper allowed Jade Crofts to take the ball.  Crofts then went around the keeper to tap in.

Jodie Bartle sent a cross into the Ferry box finding Ava Suckley.  Suckley’s header was soft and easy for Courtney Young. 


Lili Mai Jones tried a shot from outside the box but it was wide.  Jones though was in space so a warning to the reds. 


Wrexham began to push for an equaliser and put a good ball into the box towards Suckley.  Suckley was slightly offside but another warning. 


Wrexham were then aggrieved when they were not awarded a penalty.  Mariam Mahmood going down in the box after no contact and she was shown a yellow card. 


The visitors then went clos with a close range header from a corner forcing a great save from Young.  Ela Roberts then hit an overhead kick to clear the ball from goal. 


Maia Owen won a free kick out on the right.  Meg Kearle stood over the ball and then swung it over the keeper and into the back of the net. 


Marian Mahmood struck late in the half for Wrexham.

Wrexham won an early corner and Ava Suckley headed in from Carra Jones’ cross.


The visitors then had another chance as Courtney Young was called into action again.


Wrexham won a free kick just outside the ferry box.  The shot hit the wall and went though to the arms of Young.

Jade Crofts forced a save for the Wrexham keeper after breaking though the defence on a solo effort.  Crofts then hitting a shot from the right that Craven saved.


Wrexham took then lead after 56 minutes when Katie Barker struck from outside the box.

Casey Daniels sent a ball over the defence for Crofts but Liz Craven was out to collect. 


The Reds then won a free kick as Crofts was fouled just outside the Wrexham box.  Meg Kearle struck again but Craven made a good save.  Casey Daniels hit the rebound but only found the side netting. 


Maia Owen fired a shot at goal after cutting in from the left but Craven was able to save. 

The visitors added a fourth after 79 minutes when Rosie Hughes scored from close range.


Two minutes later the visitor’s added another with Natalie Clark scoring.
