“We're ready to get going and to see what we can do and achieve as a group."

Sunday’s opponents Wrexham will also be playing their first game under new manager Jenny Sugarman but Thomas has his focus on his team.

"We know Wrexham under new management will be strong, but we're focused on ourselves and giving the best performance on Sunday that we can.

“Our approach to the game doesn't change and whilst there has been a lot of change this pre season, you can still expect the same Briton ferry fight and spirit on Sunday."

The Reds faced Wrexham in their opening home game of the 2024/25 season with a 3-0 win. The Reds had won their opening game the week before beating Aberystwyth 4-0. Wrexham came to The Renewable Centre Stadium after an opening day loss to Cardiff City.

Lowri Ridings scored from close range early on after the Reds had taken the game to the visitors.  The reds went two up before the break with Alice Broadley hitting a stunning strike from just inside the Wrexham half.  Tija Richardson then headed in from a Lucy Powell free kick early in the second half.

Opposition Focus:

Wrexham begin the new season under new management with Jenny Sugarman taking over.  Sugarman joins Wrexham after a spell as Head of Academy with WSL side Leicester City.  She has also managed Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion before making the move to North Wales over the summer.

Wrexham finished in fourth place in last season's Genaro Adran Premier with a record of 10 wins, two draws and eight defeats.

Wrexham have had a busy summer as they have shaped their squad for the 2025/2026 season.  Amber Lightfoot, Rebecca Pritchard and Katie Sharp have all left the club while record appearance holder Del Morgan has retired.

Coming into the club are defender Jodie Bartle who has spells at both Celtic and Newcastle United.  She will be joined by another former Magpie in forward Katie Barker.  Barker has a keen eye for goal scoring 67 in her time with Newcastle.

Mariam Mahmood links up with coach Jenny Sugarman again after playing with the Wrexham boss at West Brom.  The 21 year old is a Pakistan international and made 80 appearances for the Baggies.  Josie Smith comes in from Wolves and Smith is a former Cymru youth international who can play in defence or midfield.  Also signing is 22 year old midfielder Hannah Snape formerly of Loughborough Lightning.

Last season saw the teams face off four times with the Reds winning the first game 3-1 at The Renewable Centre Stadium.  Wrexham won the return match at the Rock before a draw in Briton Ferry in phase two.  The final game between the sides saw the Reds win 3-1 with the game played at Stok Cae Ras.

With a new manager and much changed squad this match will prove a tough opening game for Ferry.  Both teams will want to start with a positive result and with both clubs under new management who will be looking for a winning start.

One thing that is certain is that this will be a thrilling game to start the new season.
