Match Report Welsh Cup: Briton Ferry Llansawel 5-0 Pure Swansea

Five Star performance from Ferry

Briton Ferry Llansawel booked their place in the next round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup with a 5-0 win over Pure Swansea.


A scrappy first half saw both sides have chances but it was the Reds who took the lead thanks to Jade Crofts after 7 minutes.  Both side then battled to get the next goal Kayleigh Hateley and Rhian Wilson both go close for Pure Swansea while Maia Owen, Meg Kearle and Laura-May Walkley-Witts all have chances for the Reds.  Before half time Crofts did get the second goal for Ferry sending them into the break two goals up.




The second half saw Ferry pressure the visitors and they kept them deep into their own half for long periods.  Pure Swansea defended resiliently but a special strike from Jess Denscombe made it 3-0.  The Reds continued looking for more goals and Lauren Payne added two more. 

A clever piece of play from Laura-May Walkley-Witts won the reds a corner.  Meg Kearle sent the ball into the box and although it was cleared it fell to Grace Evans.  Evans’ shot saved by the keeper. 


Moments later though Ferry made the breakthrough.  Maia Owen playing the ball into the path of Jade Crofts who fired past the keeper.


Pure Swansea then went close to  a equaliser when Rhian Wilson’s shot hit the post.


Ferry went close to a second when Walkley-Witts pass found Owen on the left.  Owen played the ball in to the box from Crofts but her shot was blocked.  The ball then went to Walkley-Witts but her effort went wide.


Pure Swansea hit the woodwork for the second time in the game when former Ferry player Kayleigh Hatley’s effort struck the bar.


Walkley-Witts played a clever ball behind the Pure Swansea defence finding Maia Owen.  Owen cut back inside and forced a save from the keeper.


Alice Broadley was fouled near the touchline giving the Reds a free kick.  Kearle went for goal and her effort went close needing a strong hand from the keeper.


The Reds got their second from a quick passing moved that was finished off by Crofts.  The Reds worked the ball out to the right and sent Grave Evans away.  Evans played a fine pass into the box for Crofts who swept the ball past the keeper first time.


It could have been three when Crofts played a ball across goal finding Maia Owen but Owen put her shot wide.

The Reds first chance of the half cam from Lucy Powell wining the ball just outside the box.  Powell went to chip one over the keeper but it was a little too high.


Jade Crofts had the chance to run behind when a ball over the defence sent her away.  The Pure Swansea keeper though was able to get to the ball first.


Ferry had been pressuring the Pure Swansea goal right though the second half but it took a quality goal to add the third. The ball coming out to Jess Denscombe who from 30 yards sent the ball over the keeper.


Crofts was fouled right on the edge of the box giving Ferry a free kick.  Meg Kearle went for goal but put her effort just over.


Lauren Payne added a fourth goal just four minutes after coming on.  Payne first to react to a loose ball in the box guiding the ball past the keeper.


Manon Thomas cut past a defender on the left and made her way towards the box.  Thomas then found Payne free and played the ball into her.  Payne with a lovely shot to guide the ball past the keeper and into the net.
