Briton Ferry Llansawel 2-0 Llanelli Town: Lucy Powell wonder free kick helps Ferry to Title

Two second half goals gave Briton Ferry victory at Old Road and with Cascade's draw saw them win back to back Adran South titles.


The first half saw Llanelli soak up the Reds pressure and restrict the chances of the home team.  Ferry were unable to create any real openings and the sides went in level at the break.


In the second half goals from Laura-May Walkley and a stunning free kick from Lucy Powell helped the Reds to a 2-0 win.


The win along with other results means The Reds will be crowned as Adran South Champions for the second season


 

Laura-May Walkley tried to slide the ball into the path of Alison Witts, but it was put out for a corner.  Ferry tried a quick short corner but were unable to create a clear chance.


An Ela Roberts cross found Megan Kearle in the box, but she was unable to trouble the Llanelli keeper.


Alison Witts picked up the ball in the middle and made her way past three Llanelli players before hitting a shot straight at the keeper.


Walkley had a couple of tries at goal as the ball came to her off a Llanelli defender her first effort being blocked, while her second went over.

Alice Broadley sent a long pass down the left for Alison Witts.  Witts made her way into the box but couldn’t get a shot away.


Walkley played a quick short corner to Jess Denscombe, but no one was able to get on the end of her ball into the box.


Witts had a golden chance to give Ferry the lead when she met Walkley’s cross but directed her header wide.

Ferry won an early corner which Denscombe sent in low to the near post.  Meg Kearle met it, but her effort was saved.


Walkley was fouled just outside the box giving the Reds a free kick in a good position. Alison Witts went for goal, but her shot was blocked for a corner.  Lowri Ridings hit the side netting when she met Denscombe’s low corner. 


Some good paly between Alice Broadley and Walkley allowed Walkley to set up Witts from close range.  Witts hit her shot high and it went over.


Lucy Powell was played in on goal and her effort beat the keeper but came back off the post.

Meg Kearle hit an effort straight at the keeper when she was played in after a quickly taken Ferry free kick.


Ferry finally made the breakthrough in the 68th minute when Laura-May Walkley fired the Reds ahead. Lucy Powell with a fine pass into the box which Walkley hit first time into the top corner.

Ferry won a free kick out on the left and Lucy Powell hit it over the Llanelli keeper and into the top corner.  A stunning strike after setting up the first.


Fleur Jenkins found Walkley in space and from outside the box Walkley sent a shot at goal that cannon off the bar.
