Briton Ferry Llansawel 7-0 Pontardawe Town: Magnificent Seven for Ferry

Just days after their historic Welsh Cup semi-final win Briton Ferry hit seven past Pontardawe.


After big wins for both side at the weekend, Ferry winning in the Welsh Cup and Ponty with a big win over Cascade both sides headed into this game with momentum.


Fleur Jenkins gave the Reds the early lead as they looked to extend their lead at the top. Chelsea Deacon got Ferry’s second in the xx minute to extend the lead. A stunning strike from Lowri Baker made it 3-0. Alice Broadley soon added a fourth as the Reds began to run riot.


In the second half goals from Megan Kearle, Mollie Jones and Manon Thomas rounded off an impressive performance. The Reds now lead the Adran South by five points.

 

Chelsea Deacon had an early chance for the Reds after good work down the right from Alice Broadley. Deacon trying to lob the ball over the keeper but finding the roof of the net.


Ferry’s early pressure told as they took an early lead as they cut thought the middle of the Ponty defence. Fleur Jenkins poking the ball home from close range.


Ponty tried to get back into the game putting a couple of balls into the box, but Courtney Young was on hand to collect.


Ponty paid the price for a poor attempt to play out from the back. A short pass from the defender was pounced on by Chelsea Deacon who curl the ball into the net.


Megan Kearle curled a free kick into the far post, but no Ferry players were able to make contact to turn the ball in.


Kearle then played a ball down the right unleashing Lowri Baker. Baker struck a fierce shot past the keeper.


Ferry were working the ball around and made their way across the pitch finding Alice Bradley. Broadley chipped the ball over the Ponty keeper to make it 4-0.


Chelsea Deacon and Alice Broadley linked up brilliantly down the left, with Deacon putting a quality ball across goal. Ponty were able to scramble the ball out.

The Reds began the second half as they did the first going on the front foot. Mollie Jones firing just wide after Walkley’s pass.


Pontardawe were again unable to handle the Reds attack as Megan Kearle slotted past the keeper from inside the box. A great moment for Kearle getting a goal on her 150th appearance for the Reds.


Chelsea Deacon tried to set Megan Kearle away with a though ball, but Ponty were able to clear before Kearle could reach the ball.


Ferry added goal number six as a precise ball from Walkley found Megan Kearle who flicked the ball on to Mollie Jones to score.


Ferry didn’t have it all their way and Courtney Young was needed to tip a shot over the bar.


Walkley was involved in goal number seven as her run and pass to Manon Thomas who scored, making it seven and seven different scorers.
