Cascade YC 3-5 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Late drama as Champions beat Cascade in added time

Briton Ferry left it late to win on the day they were crowned champions of the Genero Adran South. Two goals in added time from Laura-May Walkley and Manon Thomas ensured a Ferry win against a Cascade side that looked to spoil the champions party.


The Adran South Champions went to Cascade but the home team were out to soil the celebrations. Cascade started the game well and were putting the Reds under pressure early on. Ferry were forced to be patience but took the lead thanks to Megan Kearle capitalizing on a mistake from Cascade. Just a minute later and Kearle had her second of the game as Ferry were ruthless in front of goal. Cascade came back and after having a goal ruled out Molly Chapman headed in to make it 2-1. Ferry were gifted a third goal in the 35th minute with Laura-May Walkley scoring from close range.


Cascade started the second half better and got another goal though Molly Chapman in the 58th minute. The host were able to break up the flow of the Reds game and had the better of the opening minutes of the half. Cascade’s high defensive line squeezing the pitch and stopping Ferry from playing. Chrystalla Moreton got the equaliser for the host’s who been pushing throughout the half.


After the game the Briton Ferry team were awarded their League winners medals before captain Lowri Ridings lifted the Adran South Trophy.

 

Cascade tried to play out from the back and gifted the ball to Megan Kearle. Kearle took advantage and found the top corner.


Moments later and Kearle was though on goal again firing a low shot this time into the bottom corner. A telling though ball from Fleur Jenkins setting Kearle in on goal. Ferry two despite having a slow start to the game.


Cascade were undeterred and Molly Chapman headed over from a corner.


Cascade got a goal from a corner, but the flag went up and it was ruled out. This woke up the visitors and Chelsea Deacon found herself in goal after a good run passing two defenders. Her effort on goal was put out from a corner. Ferry won another corner and from the second Brooke Llewellyn headed just wide.


The Reds allowed the hosts back into the game and Chrystalla Moreton was able to get into the Ferry box and went close with a effort from the right.


Just after and the hosts had a goal back when Molly Chapman headed in from a corner.

Fleur Jenkins won the ball in the middle and found Megan Kearle. Kearle played the ball forward for Walkley but a good tackle stop her getting in on goal.


Trying to play out of the back cost Cascade again as Moreton’s pass went to Lowri Baker in the centre of the box and she found Walkley. Hitting a low shot from close range Walkley restored the two-goal lead.


Megan Kearle played a good ball though to Deacon and she went for goal forcing a save from the Cascade keeper.

Cascade had a chance five minutes into the second half when Annalise Lewis came sliding in at the back post from a corner. Lewis’ effort was high, and Ferry were able to clear.


Cascade then had a free kick which Lewis took and went for goal. Her effort was close to Courtney Young and she made a comfortable save.


Cascade’s good play told as a ball out to the right found Molly Chapman who rolled a shot into the bottom corner.


Ferry did get a chance on a break away as Kearle got in front of the last defender and had a shot form outside the box. Kristy Lewis out well to block the shot and clear.


A quick throw in from Walkley found Kearle free behind the Cascade back line. Kearle shot early but her effort went just wide.


Chrystalla Moreton levelled the game in the 76th minute with a low shot into the bottom corner.

Fleur Jenkins’ ball across goal found the stretched leg of Walkley but she couldn’t direct the ball goal wards.


Walkley sent a good ball though to Denscombe who went for goal but put her effort wide. Denscombe was taken out by the keeper with Ferry supporters and players calling for a pen but nothing given by the ref.


Walkley was denied in added time after here driving run into the box her shot was saved at close range by Lewis.


Walkley however was able to find the net from a stunning solo effort. Picking up the ball from Manon Thomas, Walkley drove at the defender before side stepping past her and firing a rocket shot into the top corner.


Ferry weren't finished and Manon Thomas added another stoppage time goal. Fleur Jenkins was able to break away on the right and sent the ball into the box. Thomas showed more desire and got to the ball before the Cascade defender and hit the ball home past Lewis.
