Freya Peyton double helps Reds slay Dragons

Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Pontypridd United 3-0 in the Adran Premier at The Renewable Centre Stadium. 


Briton Ferry controlled much of the game and scored twice in the first half.  Freya Peyton got the Reds first just five minutes into the game with a lifted effort over the Pontypridd keeper.  Maia Owen was fouled in the box allowing Lucy Powell to double the Reds lead in the 42nd minute. 


Then second half saw Ferry again take the game to their visitors creating many chances to add to their lead. It was Peyton again who helped herself to a second goal scoring in the 61st minute.

Briton Ferry now have a three point lead at the top of the Adran Premier Plate Conference going into the final four games of the season. 

Ferry made a bright start to the game and forced Ponty deep into their own half.  The Reds took ana early lead when Freya Peyton lifted the ball over the keeper and despite getting a touch the Ponty keeper couldn’t keep it out.


Ferry kept on the offensive and soon Jade Crofts had the chance to double the lead.  Lice Broadley cut across the edge of the box played the ball to Meg Kearle whom set up Crofts.  Crofts snap shot going just wide.


The attacks kept coming and Brooke Llewellyn went close from a Ferry corner.  Kearle sent the ball into the box which Ponty were unable to clear with the ball falling to Llewellyn who shot just wide.


The reds kept creating chances and a good ball from the by-line from Crofts found Caitlin Seaborne on the edge of the box.  Seaborne hitting a low shot just wide.


Crofts broke though the Ponty defence and went for goal with a powerful shot going just over the bar.


Luana D’Ambrosio flashed a shot away which flew over the bar as Ponty tried to level the scores.

Ferry did get a second before half time with Lucy Powell scoring from the spot.  Maia Owen worked her way into the box and as she went past a defender she was brought down.  Powell calmly slotted away the spot kick.

Ferry again started brightly and on the attack.  Jess Denscombe sent a good cross into the box and found the head of Maia Owen.  Owen directed her header just wide of the goal.

Good work on the right from Peyton allowed her to set up Denscombe to send the ball into the box. Denscombe sent the ball towards the far corner but the keeper was able to get it.


Lucy Powell won the ball in the middle of the Ponty half and unleashed a powerful effort at goal.  With the keeper at full stretch the ball went just wide. 


Freya Peyton grabbed a second and Ferry’s third jus ton the hour.  Peyton show great determination in the box to win the ball and put it past the keeper.


A good ball into he box from Maia Owen fell to Georgia Howells who went for goal but her effort was wide.


More chances came the way of the Reds with Meg Kearle firing a low shot just wide of the post.

The Reds were unable to add a fourth goal but secure an important win.
