Swansea Uni 1-2 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Reds pass Swansea Uni Test

Briton Ferry picked up another vital three points as the beat Swansea Uni 2-1. the Reds were made to work hard and come from behind but maintain their lead at the top of the Adran South.


A scrappy start to the game on a poor pitch saw both teams try to adjust the ball bobbling. Ferry looked to take the initiative and take the game to Swansea. Despite trying to take the game it was the host who scored first. Angelika Barris with the goal for Swansea. The Reds tired to get a equaliser but went into the break behind.


The Reds came out for the second half and got the equaliser after 52 minutes thanks to Megan Kearle. There was a better focus and intensity from the Reds and they had Swansea on the back foot. Lucy Powell gave the Reds the lead on 59 minutes with a fine free kick. A third for Ferry was ruled out for an offside.


Megan Kearle had the first chance of the game when she capitalised on a loose ball in the Swansea half. Kearle cut past a defender and try to curl the ball into the net, but it was too close to the keeper.


Good link up play down the left between Chelsea Deacon and Alice Bradley allowed Broadley to put the ball across the box, but it was cut out by the keeper.


Just as the Reds looked to be taking control Swansea Uni got the opening goal. Angelika Barris lobbing Courtney Yong from the edge of the box.


Megan Kearle forced a corner as she pressed the Swansea defence. She swung the corner into the box, but the keeper was able to punch away.


The Reds lost influential defender Brooke Llewellyn to an ankle injury after 16 minutes.


Chelsea Deacon played a lovely ball into the box looking for the run of Kearle. Swansea just managed to cut the ball out of the path of Kearle.


Fleur Jenkins did well to take the ball under pressure and spin away from the defender but her cross went into the side netting.


Lucy Powell’s free kick went right into the danger zone, but no one could capitalise and the keeper took it.

Megan Kearle was able to get a cross into the near post where Fleur Jenkins was but the keeper cut out the ball.


Ferry soon had the equaliser as Lucy Powell passed the ball to Megan Kearle in the box. Kearle stepped past the defender and fired into the top corner.





Ferry stepped up their intensity after the goal and were looking to take the lead. They were awarded a free kick out on the right and Lucy Powell stepped up to take. Seeing the keeper leave space at the near post Powell curled the ball into the net. Another quality goal for Lucy Powell this season.


Lowri Baker narrowly missed the top corner with a close effort from the edge of the box.


Katy Horsburgh went close for Swansea when her header trickled just past the post.


Ferry were denied a third goal when Manon Thomas’ goal was ruled out for offside. Thomas was judged to be in an offside position after scoring from close range.


Swansea Uni pushed as the game came to a close but a superb block from Manon Thomas stopped a chance in added time.


Swansea Uni couldn't find a late leveller again this week and Briton Ferry leave with three vital points.
